Rider Course
Component Three is the ATV Safety Institute (ASI) RiderCourse (RC). The RC is a hands-on, 4 hour, ride-the-ATV course utilizing state licensed instructors. The ASI curriculum is nationally recognized and utilizes building block lessons on a 150’ by 200’ relatively level, unpaved, unobstructed, closed range.
Lessons include braking, turning, swerving, riding over obstacles and on hilly terrain.
ASI also provides an online Ecourse that can be used as “stand-alone” training or in conjunction with hands-on training utilizing an instructor-led “S” Course. This Scourse takes approximately three hours and a printed completion certificate from the Course is required.
TXTEAMM has partnered with Texas 4-H and Youth Development to provide these training opportunities to all 4-H members at no cost and can provide ATVs (for as young as 10), safety gear and handbooks.
RC’s are available at no cost to anyone who has purchased a new ATV from almost any major manufacturer. Depending on which brand, up to three additional family members can also take theRC at no cost. Free training will be provided to those who have purchased the proper sized ATV for their age, following manufacturer’s guidelines.
Often, an “incentive” is also available upon successful completion of the RC. Up to $ 100 cash or merchandise, per ATV purchased.
